We exclusively grow Territory Native Plants
As the name suggests, we’re passionate about local native species, in fact it’s all we do!
Low Maintenance
Territory Native Plants are low on maintenance. They don’t need much help or money to survive and thrive. They often require little additional water beyond wet season rains and many are cyclone, termite and pest resistant.
Encourage Wildlife
Territory Native Plants promote biodiversity. They flower abundantly with showy, brightly coloured blooms, perfumed scents and nectar - providing food, shelter and habitat for native birds, butterflies, bees, frogs, mammals and reptiles.
Built for the Environment
Territory Native Plants produce edible fruit, provide natural shade, screening, windbreaks and cooling. They can reduce potential weeds and energy consumption as well.
“Native plantings provide habitat for native fauna and increase biodiversity…[but] bigger is not always better. Smaller plants that are well looked after will often outperform larger plants. Native tree and shrub species tend to perform better when they spend less time in pots and are planted from smaller stock. ”
Our Plant Growing Process
Harvest, Plant, Grow, Thrive and Deliver!
Harvest
First we sustainably harvest all our own wild seed under permit, focussing on local provenance. Territory Native Plants (TNP) also maintain a considerable seed bank of natives to complement annual harvesting.
Plant
Seed treatment techniques include scarification, boiling, soaking and smoking to ‘unlock’ the seed, or break dormancy. Treated seeds are then sown into germination trays under conditions specifically tailored to each species. Once germinated, seedlings are ‘pricked out’ and ‘potted up’ using premium quality, custom blended soil-less potting media.
Grow
Plants begin to grow within strict humidity and temperature conditions. The pH and fertiliser needs are monitored, and the stock is slowly ‘sun-hardened’. All tubes feature root trainers and bottomless air-pruning design, maximising root growth while minimising the risk of ‘spiralling’ or ‘root binding’. This ensures your plants are ready to thrive as soon as they are planted!
Thrive
Territory Native Plants that are planted small will in many cases outperform those in larger pots or bags. That’s why Territory Native Plants specialise in tube stock, ensuring minimal disturbance to root and tree development during early growth and lower mortality rates upon planting. Territory Native Plants has a network of landscape, arboreal and earthworks partners to help you get the plants in the ground. Contact us for details.
Deliver
The team at Territory Native Plants don’t only collect the seed and propagate the plants, they get to drive the brand new pretty truck as well! Delivering weekly to all retail outlets, landscaping projects and civil worksites (Delivery charges apply. Not available for retail orders, unless by prior arrangement)
