Top End native plants are the most suited to our local soils and climate. Once established, woodland water-wise species can withstand long dry periods.
1. When establishing you native plants add organic material such as manures, composts and mulches into the planting hole to help retain moisture.
2. Saturate the soil prior to planting and ensure deep watering for the first few months to establish deep root systems.
3. Use organic mulches and top up through the year.
For more detailed information about irrigation frequency and duration please see pages 43-44 in The Ultimate Irrigation User Guide published by Power and Water Corporation and the NTG.
