Impressive ornamental freshwater mangrove tree with masses of small red edible fruit. Naturally occurs on the margins of streams and swamps, in coastal vine thickets and monsoon forests. Trunk is occasionally buttressed; flowers are white, cream or green; branches are layered and widely spreading. Bird and butterfly attracting, cyclone resistant. One of the few species known to support the ‘4 O'Clock moth’. 5-12m.
